This is a VW spec ad created by Vincent Laforet to test out the 1D Mark IV for Canon. The concept of the round car in a square world is great and the shots are awesome. The thing I like most though is the idea of just creating an ad. Vincent didn’t wait around for VW to offer him a job, he went out, had fun, and made something great. And although it wasn’t the goal of this project, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets offered a job from them soon.
I felt like posting this video of Ryan McGinley’s ‘Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere’ show opening because 1. I like the song and 2. halfway through it gets so crowded that the mass spills into the streets, stops traffic and causes the fire department to shut everything down!
In this interview with Kwaku Alston he talks about starting out, changes in the industry, gear, and how he works.
I like when he talks about the different cameras and formats he uses, not because he is a big gear freak but because he says it refreshes your eyes and makes you see things differently. A lot of people say that equipment doesn’t matter but I myself have found it really helpful to be able to switch back and forth from digital to 6x6.
“Show what you love, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot..”
Above is a commercial and below is a still ad produced by Jason Wallis for the Mobile Regional Airport. I like the pace of the video and how the still ad has similar images to those seen in the video which helps with the consistency of the campaign. I find it interesting to see how photographers are doing slipping into the role of director on the same gig and I think Jason did a great job.
